Matters of the Heart

\\”Hello?”\\

//”Hello.”//

She couldn’t help but smile at the sound of his voice on the other end of

the line.

\\”Hey!”\\

//”I got a question for you.”//

\\”Okay, shoot.”\\

//”How soon can you get here?”//

\\”Ummm... Wednesday good for you?”\\

//”Wednesday? I’ll be an old man come Wednesday.”//

\\”You’re an old man already.”\\

//”Watch it little girl.”//

\\”Ooh those are fighting words.”\\

She heard his chuckle through the ear piece.

//”Come on, candle light, soft music, bubbles…”//

\\”Bubbles?”\\

//”Aha.”//

\\”Hmm... You’re not making this easy on me.”\\

//”That’s the plan. I want you.”//

I want you too, she mused, but I’m not the only one she added thinking back

to her run in with Lita.

~Flash Back~

“Tell me it’s not true.”

“Lita, hi, what’s not true?”

“Tell me you’re not sleeping with him.”

She didn’t have to ask who ‘him’ was. There was only one ‘him’ that she and

Lita had in common.

“I’m not sleeping with him.”

Lita sighed and smiled obviously pleased with her answer.

But I may have had I not bumped into you, she thought now her fingers

curling around the phone cord as she got lost in her musings. He had kissed

her in a more than friendly way last night. They had been friends for so

long it just never registered that they would click as anything other than

just good friends, but last night that kiss had been a damn toe curling

experience.

//”You there?”//

\\”Yeah, I’m here.”\\

//”So… my place… say… 20 minutes?”//

\\”Did you tell Lita about last night?”\\

//”Huh?”//

\\”Because she thinks there’s something going on.”\\

//”There is.”//

She could so tell he was grinning on the other end of the line.

\\”She still has feelings for you.”\\

She heard him sigh.

//”I know. The thing is I don’t have feelings for her. I did at one time but

that time has passed.”//

Knock! Knock!

\\”Someone’s at the door, hold on a minute okay.”\\

//”Okay.”//

Placing the hand set down she crossed the room to the door, the words “Who

is it?” dropping from her lips as she pulled it open.

“Hi.”

There he stood with a crooked smile on his face and his mobile phone still

held up to his ear.

Her mouth opened but he gave her no time to voice a reply and not waiting

for an invite he stepped through the doorway, took her in his arms and

kicked the door shut.

Thigh met thigh, back met wall, tongue met neck. God, that MacDonald’s

advert was right she thought. Contentment is a beautiful thing! Her new

found revelation was short lived though because friendship was a beautiful

thing too. Her friendship with him and her friendship with Lita and she

could lose both if she didn’t tread carefully.

Groaning she pushed away from him, turning her head away as his mouth

followed.

“This can’t happen,” She breathed putting the width of the couch between

them.

“Why not? Last night we kissed-“

“I know,” Her hand went to her forehead. “but-“

“But what? I felt something when we kissed and I know you did too.”

“We have a good friendship-“

“Don’t give me that, there’s more to it then just a good friendship.” He

eyed her closely, his eyes penetrating, “Its Lita isn’t it?”

She crossed her arms under her breasts and turned away.

“I knew it, what’s she done? What’s she said?”

“Nothing I didn’t know already.” She replied softly.

He was by her side again, his arms turning her to face him. He sighed and he

leaned towards her so that his forehead rested against hers.

“Do you want me?” He whispered.

Yes, she inwardly sighed. But is ‘wanting’ enough?

“Close you eyes,” He continued his voice still in hushed tones.

“Matt…”

“Shhh… close your eyes…”

She did and felt him move closer, yet not close enough to touch. She felt

him circle her, felt him brush passed her hair at the back and felt his

breath flow down her bare arm.

“Don’t push me away Steph… don’t push me away…”

She opened her mouth to reply, but her whispered words were lost as his lips meet hers.
