“Hey!”
Dawn turned at the some what familiar voice and the blood drained from her face when she saw Randy Orton jogging up to her.
“I thought that was you.” He continued.
“Hi.” She said gazing up at him.
He smiled. “I was kind of hoping I’d run into you one of these days.”
“Were you?”
“Sure.” He grinned. “We’re going to have to get together again soon.
‘Yeah right.’ She told herself, but aloud she said brightly. “That would be fun.” She started walking again securing the strap of her back pack on her shoulder and didn’t bother to see if he were following or not.
“Are you in a hurry or something?” he asked getting into step beside her.
She nodded and quickened her step before calling over her shoulder, “Catch you later.” She caught a glimpse of his ‘Did-I-just-get-brushed-off’ expression and promptly patted herself on the back.

When she got home the phone was ringing and since Buffy had given her a mobile phone no one she knew ever called for her on the house phone so she didn’t break her neck trying to get it before it rang off.
“Hello,” she said when she finally answered it.
“Dawn? It’s Randy.”
How did he get this number? Was her first thought. God I’m glad Buffy didn’t answer! Was her second.
“Did I do something to make you mad?” He asked, “You rushed off rather suddenly.”
‘Oh where to start?’ chimed her inner voice.
“No,” she lied. “I was just in a hurry.”
“Are you still in a hurry? Or can you talk.”
“I guess I can talk.” She replied doing a quick survey of the area to make sure no one of adult status was in hearing distance.
“Do you think you could go out with me tonight?” he asked.
She opened her mouth to say ‘No’ she really truly did, but ‘Yes’ came out instead and she jumped when as soon as the word left her lips the clock fell off the wall and clattered loudly as it hit the floor.
She stared at it in amazement. It was a sign - She just knew it! A sign reminding her of how much this man loved himself. And - she couldn’t help but add – she would have to listen to another Andrew lecture about the differences between a ‘boy’ and a ‘man’. She rolled her eyes. ’Like he would know.’ She thought with a huff. An Andrew lecture was not a good thing to sit through especially when every five minutes or so he’s asking for her dates phone number. That’s just Ew!
“What was that?” he asked through the receiver.
“Nothing,” she replied, “The clock fell.”
“I know how it feels,” she could hear a smile in his voice. “So… same time same place?”
‘Same girls?’ she added silently, but aloud she said, “Ah… sorry. When I said ‘Yes’ before I actually meant ‘No’.”
“Oh…”
Was he really as bummed as he sounded? She asked herself and then with her next breath quietly replied, ‘Nah…’ to her own question.
“It’s just…” He began, “…when I came back to the table you were gone… and to be honest you were the only decent thing that happened to me all night. Those girls I was dancing with were only interested in my car, they weren’t interested in me.”
“I have to wonder why you would think girls were only interested in you for your car, have you looked in the mirror lately? You are serious hottie material. I would have been interested even if you rode a skateboard.”
“So you’ll come?” his voice was hopeful.
“No, you see the Randy Orton I met on the net and the Randy Orton I met in that club are two different people and frankly I found that I didn’t like the second one.”
“Ouch, straight for the guts.”
She found herself smiling at his comment as he started to gag on the other end of the line. “Well I’ve got strong role models to follow.” She said thinking of Buffy, Willow and Anya… oh and yeah Andrew too, she added with a grin. “But I am not the same Dawn you met on the net.”
“You’re not?”
“No, I am a lot younger then her.”
“You are?”
“Aha,” she confirmed and then added. “But not by much.”
“Well maybe once I better my second self and you age a little…” she could tell he was smiling as he continued, “…maybe I could call you?”
“A glutton for punishment huh?”
“You have no idea.”
She wondered why his words sounded like they held a double meaning, but didn’t dwell on it long as Buffy followed closely by Willow and Andrew started to make there way down the stairs.
“I gotta get going, take care okay?”
“You too Dawn Summers,” she heard him sigh on the other end. “You too.”
