Summary: Dawn just needs to get away

Dawn sat alone and thought about her situation with Charlie. He had pretty much blown her off. She wanted to go and drown her sorrows in something strong. She leaned against the wall and propped her arms on her knees. She wanted to cry but she was not going to break down here for everyone to see. She was looking for a friendly face to pass by. She wanted to go outside but it was too cold plus she would be tempted to smoke again.

Shannon was listening to Rey till a story about some chick, an onion and a polish sausage. He heard Kidman and Rob discussing the love triangle of Dawn, Charlie and Jackie. Shannon knew that Charlie was just using Dawn until he was sure about being with Jackie. He knew that she was read to take a road trip to get away from everything and clear her head. He had taken her to Carolina one time. He loved the way the Northern girl came out in her. The tea was too sweet. Everyone was too nice and had an angle. She was cute the way she sang to every song, whether she knew it or not.

Dawn sat and tried to name the seven dwarfs and the names of those cartoon characters whose shows were so similar. She smiled as she noticed Shannon. Their friendship was weird in itself. For 25, he was mature and caring. She could tell that he had something in mind. The sound of the jingling keys turned Dawn into a Kindergartener waiting for recess. It was an uneventful taping of Smackdown and he couldn’t wait to get home. Plus he wanted company and Dawn was the perfect companion.

Dawn grabbed her bags haphazardly. She ignored the whispers of Torrie and Jackie. She was looking for love too bad it was with the person. She walked towards the parking lot. No one tried to understand her side. It takes a lot to turn away from a terrible situation when you get so much pleasure and warm emotions. Shannon was waiting by the back door and grabbed her bags. They walked quietly and quickly to the car. Dawn shook and realized they needed to scare away the cold.

Dawn got on the interstate and headed south. Whiskey did not help her forget, it only numbed her to the inevitable. While she drove, she sang and thought about things. She had completed this ritual several times. She got over Paul Hey man last year while driving from Pennsylvania to South Carolina. Charlie would be no different.  Dawn glanced at Shannon as he slept. He was not receiving that big of a push and took more punishment that anyone but he did not complain.

Dawn reached Raleigh around 5am. She blinked her eyes as she met the pink sunrise. She would sleep the rest of the day away. But there was one thing she had accomplished. Charlie Haas was no longer her concern. He made his choice. Her worst nightmare had damaged her so badly. She did not want to be alone. She always sought the wrong things from men. She had it inside of her. She was smart, beautiful and talented. Then she smiled as she remembered the only things you hold are what you hold in your mind. She was going to hold herself in a higher state of mind.

Would you take a northern girl (boy)

To Carolina

Ride with me down the long grey road

You know i'll sing while I'm driving

Stay awake and scare off the cold

REFRAIN:

Silding Down the Interstate is not

Some people's idea of a thing to do

But you know it's better than whisky to forget

Things you'd rather leave behind

And if there's one thing I've learned in all this time

The only things you hold are what you hold in your mind

Pink sunrise in the morning

I think it's time to rest my eyes

They've been burning me a warning

I'm gonna cross outside the line

Refrain

How much damage can nightmares do

When a mocking bird sings all night for you?

You wake up and it's almost four

And he's still outside your motel door
