Here Without You

~A hundred day's have made me older~

~Since the last time that I saw your pretty face~

~A thousand light's have made me colder~

~And I don’t think I can look at this the same~

~But all the mile's that separate~

~They disappear now when I’m dreaming of your face~

"More coffee?"

Christian looked up from the window he'd been gazing out of to see the waitress standing beside his table, coffee pot in hand.

"Yeah, please." He replied, pushing his cup towards her.

"You okay honey? You’ve been sitting there all night just staring out that window."

He smiled half heartedly up at her. "Just got a lot happening in my life right now." '...and a lot I wish didn't happen...' He added silently to himself.

The waitress smiled knowingly as she pushed his cup back in front of him. She had seen men come and go from the diner over the year's and had learnt to read there body language and this one was definitely sporting a broken heart.

"This one's on the house." She said her tone comforting.

"Hey," He called after her as she walked away towards the counter. "Thanks."

She smiled back at him for a minute before continuing on her way.

~I’m here without you baby~

~But your still on my lonely mind~

~I think about you baby~

~And I dream about you all the time~

~I’m here without you baby~

~But your still with me in my dream's~

~And tonight, it’s only you and me~

He remembered coming here the last time the WWE had been in this city. Only the circumstance's then hadn't been what they were now. He even remembered the waitress she had been the same one who had served him and Lita, although he had seen no hint of recognition in her eyes.

Lita.

Even hearing her name in his subconscious filled him with this acute feeling of longing, made him wish with all his heart and soul that the scene playing out in his mind were real.

That she was really there sitting next to him, that his arm was really around her, holding her to him as she cried on his shoulder after Matt had dumped her.

He saw her face clearly in his mind's eye, saw how her eye's would fill with tear's even though she tried her hardest to keep them at bay.

Saw his own hands reach up to cup her face, his thumb's stroking across her cheek's, wiping away the tear's that slipped through her closed eye's.

Heard the soothing word's he had whispered to her as he had held her, word's that had come straight from his heart.

~The mile's just keep rolling~

~As the people lead there way to say hello~

~I've heard this life is overrated~

~But I hope that it gets better as we go~

They left the diner some time later and he had taken her back to his hotel room where he lead her straight to the bathroom. Once there he had pulled the lid to the toilet seat down so she could sit while he wet a small towel before going down on his knees in front of her to wash her face and hand's.

He remembered leaving the bathroom only to return soon after with his bag and pulling out one of his T-shirt's out from inside of his bag he held it out to her, but when she made no attempt to take it from him, he knelt down in front of her again and began to undress her and he remembered the whole time she had stared at him with sad eye's.

They had stayed up the whole night, talking, listening, holding... and only when the first ray's of the sun began to peek through the hotel curtain's did she move out of his arm's.

~I’m here without you baby~

~But your still on my lonely mind~

~I think about you baby~

~And I dream about you all the time~

~I’m here without you baby~

~But your still with me in my dream's~

~And tonight girl, it’s only you and me~

He didn't try to stop her as she made her way to the bathroom, emerging a few minutes later dressed in her own clothes. He got up and smiled when she took his hand in hers as together they walked towards the door.

She had kissed him then, lightly on the cheek. Thanking him for being the friend she had needed last night.

~Everything I know, and anywhere I go~

~It gets hard but it won’t take away my love~

~And when the last one fall's~

~When it’s all said and done~

~It gets hard but it won’t take away my love~

He wished now that he had never let her leave his room, he wished now he could've had more time to get out of the bet he had made with Jericho. But it seemed 'time' was something he had little of as footage of a conversation he had had with Jericho was aired that night on Raw. A conversation that neither man had wanted anyone to overhear. A conversation 'he' had never meant for Lita to hear.

The shock on his face as he stood in the middle of the ring with Jericho was priceless and as he turned to the man standing next to him, he saw his shock mirrored on his friend's face.

Only one thing had gone through his mind then and he dropped to the ring floor and slipped under the bottom rope, leaving Jericho and the tag team match they were currently scripted in. He had to find Lita.

He tried the diva's locker room first but all that achieved was the door getting slammed in his face.

He had one shot left and though it was a long shot he began to run towards the arena exit. Picking up speed at each turn. And sure enough there she was.

She looked much like he had found her after her episode with Matt.

She was packed and ready to leave the arena with her gym bag over one shoulder and Mason's head protruding out of another bag which was slung over her other shoulder. The only difference this time was the tear's he saw in her eyes were tear's 'he' had put there.

~I’m here without you baby~

~But your still on my lonely mind~

~I think about you baby~

~And I dream about you all the time~

~I’m here without you baby~

~But your still with me in my dream's~

~And tonight girl, it’s only you and me~

There was nothing he could do but watch as she turned her back on him and walked away. That was a scene his mind played out over and over again as a reminder of what he could have had.

The traffic passed by the window where he still sat and his eye's focused on his reflection. He looked different, gone was the cockiness, gone was the on screen Christian. All that was left was a man who now knew the true meaning of loneliness.

Getting up from the table he pulled out a few bills, placing them down on the table before walking out of the diner, oblivious to the pair of knowing eye's that followed him.

~I’m here without you baby~

~But your still on my lonely mind~

~I think about you baby~

~And I dream about you all the time~

~I’m here without you baby~

~But your still with me in my dream's~

~But tonight girl, it’s only you and me~
