Here I Am
**
~I saw the sun
for the first time today~
~It’s been so
long I’d thought you’d gone away~
~And now I
feel as though I’ve been here before~
~Once again my
friend, I’ll see you to the end~
He sighed
deeply.
It had been so
long since he’d been in the spotlight. Would the crowd still take to him after
all this time? He definitely hoped so. They may still remember him as he was
before – Just like he remembered them. The only doubt in his mind was that
maybe they wouldn’t like the new him – Just like he mightn’t like there
reaction to his return.
There was no
faulting the familiar flutter he’d get though, deep in the pit of his stomach
as he’d patiently wait for his cue.
This time he
would ‘do’ it right. This time he would ‘make’ it
right.
~Here I am
this is me~
~What you get
is what you see~
~Look around I
am free and there are no fears in me~
~Here I am~
He stepped
through the curtain and the well known sound of the crowd surrounded him. The
butterflies in his stomach left as soon as he placed his first step up on that
ramp.
He held his
arms open as if to embrace the crowd, taking in the ambiance, letting this
moment soak into his very being. He may have changed his look, his style, his
hair maybe one all over colour, but it was him - All
him.
He was still a
free spirit, his mind and body still knew nothing of the word ‘fear’. He was
still the same man inside, where it counted.
~At times the
world seems to scare me so~
~Don’t know
where I’m headed and I don’t know where I’ll go~
~I know it’s
not as bad as it seems to me~
~Once again my
friend, I’ll see you to the end~
I’ve battled
my own inner demons and come out on top, returned to the one thing I love and
though I know not how long it will last, I do know this is where I want to be.
He made his
way down the ramp and when he reached the end he looked out at them all from
inside the squared circle, lifting his hand in a silent salute to there welcome
and he knew at that very minute that he was where they all wanted him to be.
~Here I am
this is me~
~What you get
is what you see~
~Look around I
am free and there are no fears in me~
~Here I am~
The tears in
his eyes cloud his vision and as he raised his hand to wipe his eyes clear the
cheer of the crowd faded and the lights dimmed.
Slipping out
of the ring, head bowed, Jeff Hardy walked back up the ramp and left the empty
arena.
~And this is
me~
