Awake

**

The sun shone through the blinds, its rays rousing him into a wake ness. He looked through red rimmed eyed at the scene that lay out before him. Upturned furniture, broken glass, curtains askew, a skipping CD playing in the back ground and he lying face up on the floor in the middle of it. He tried to focus on the sound of the skipping CD, trying to block out what his eyes took in. God he wished he knew what had happened here. He wished he could remember. He lifted a hand to his head and thumped his palm against his forehead.

‘Think damn it think!’ He told himself bringing his hands up to cover his face, his eyes closing almost immediately, but just as quickly they snapped open again when the images that flashed behind his closed lids showed more horrific scenes then what he saw now before him.

“What did I do?” He whispered pulling himself up into a sitting position and wrapping his arms around his up drawn knees. He looked towards the bed to see the images that had flashed in his minds eye were real. The once white bed sheets were smeared with blood - Lots and lots of blood. His eyes followed the stains and his teeth started to worry his bottom lip as his gaze connected with a well manicured female hand as it dangled over the side.

“Oh god… what did I do?”

Cheater

**

“Babe… I’ll do anything, just tell me what I can do to make things right again. Don’t leave me please…”

“You stuck your dick in Dawn Marie!” She cried zipping the small bag she had packed closed. “No amount of sorry can erase that from my mind. There’s nothing you can do to make this right.”

She made to move passed him and he stepped in front of her to hinder her leaving, his hands reaching out to clasp her upper arms. “I made a mistake, a drunken bloody mistake. I wish I could go back in time and not gone into that bar. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I did and that’s all I remember. I don’t remember sleeping with Dawn Marie-“

“I’ve heard this all before,” She cut in harshly. “But the fact of the matter is I flew here to surprise you, to be with you because like an idiot I thought you were missing me as much as I was missing you.”

“I was!” He said his grip tightening a little on her arms. “That’s why I went into that bar in the first place because I was missing you.”

“Well you sure found a cure for that didn’t you.” She hissed wrenching herself from his hold.

“I love you Jackie!” He cried not knowing what else to say.

“I love you too Charlie,” She said keeping her back to him as she pulled the door open. “But after finding you in bed with Dawn Marie I wish to hell I didn’t.”

Charlie fell to his knees and cradled his face in his hands as the only woman he ever loved and the only woman he would ever love walked out of his life.

Gone

**

He pulled his car to a stop and switched off the ignition. This was the first time he had ever arrived at a Smack Down event on his own. He always, always had someone with him when they were on the road - First Shelton, then Rico and then Jackie. Thinking of Jackie now made his heart physically hurt. He hadn’t seen her all week, none of her friends were saying anything and she wasn’t answering his calls. It was like she had just vanished off the face of this earth and out of his life.

He’d been waiting for this night to come. Waiting for another chance to try to explain himself, to try to get her to take him back. He’d do anything to get her back - Anything.

With that thought in mind he opened the car door, stepped out onto the asphalt and moved towards the entrance doors knowing that if he played his cards right he wouldn’t be going back to the hotel alone.

The first one he saw when he walked in was Rob talking to a few of the stage hands and Charlie noticed the other man’s face take on a forlorn expression as there eyes met before Rob turned his gaze away.

He passed Torrie next and wasn’t surprised when she shot him a glare, her whole demeanour giving off a ‘Serves you right’ vibe.

And then as he neared his locker room for the night it was to see little Rey Rey pacing in front of the door way.

“Hey man,” He said as Charlie neared.

“Sorry Rey,” He began. “Can’t talk now I need to go find Jackie.”

“Listen-“

“I’m serious man. Do you know where the divas locker room is?”

“Charlie, stop and listen for a minute. This is about Jackie.”

That made him stop and take notice.

“What is it man?” He asked and Rey turned away from him and shook his head before lifting his gaze back to his friend.

“Its Jackie man, she’s gone.”

“Gone? What do you mean gone?”

“She asked for a transfer to Raw and was granted it. She’s gone bro.”

Tales

**

“What can I say… our feelings for each other just couldn’t be denied any longer.

Charlie paused in the hallway. He’d been on his way to see Theodore Long to find out for himself if what Rey had told him were true when the sound of two girls talking drew his attention.

“He told me I was the only one for him and that as soon as he could he was gonna call things off with Jackie.”

He couldn’t hear what the other woman in the room with her was saying, his hearing focused only on what was coming out of Dawn Marie’s mouth.

“Of course…” He heard her continue. “…the next step is marriage, I wanted a June wedding, but he doesn’t want a long engagement.”

‘The bitch.’ He thought struggling not to push the slightly ajar door open and face the young woman who’d been the start of his and Jackie’s problems.

“I have to confess he’s the best sex I’ve ever had. He was tender and loving and the best part about our night together was when we were both lying sated in each others arms and he told me how much he loved me.”

Both his fists clenched and he finally moved to push the door open when he saw Theodore Long appear at the end of the hallway only to disappear through a doorway.

Caught between wanting to face Dawn Marie and her tales or find out if Jackie had really left he slammed his fist into the wall before sprinting off in the direction the General Manager of Smack Down had gone.

Alienation

**

Charlie walked out of Theodore Long’s office having just heard straight from the General Manager’s mouth that Jackie had indeed asked for and been granted a position within the Raw roster. His first instinct had been to ask for a position for himself, but Theodore had started to shake his head even before the words could tumble from his mouth. She need’s time, he had said. And the best thing Charlie could do was give it to her. So he had left Theodore’s office feeling more lost and alone then when he had entered it.

He started back towards his locker room not noticing the man coming straight at him from the other direction until they collided. An apology formed on his lips but there it stayed as he looked up and saw the hatred burning within the other man’s eyes.

“You’re a fucking idiot.” Rico hissed before shoving Charlie back and stalking off. Charlie’s forlorn expression followed the other man’s steps until he had turned at the end of the hallway before he himself lowered his eyes and only when he had turned did he realise that they had had an audience. His brows furrowing when he saw there expressions mirrored Rico’s.

You got no one to blame but yourself, he inwardly told himself as he paid them no heed and continued on down the hallway. He saw Rey coming out of a locker room and quickened his pace to catch up with him, but his smile died when Rey turned a disappointed gaze on him.

“I thought you wanted to work things out with Jackie?” Was all he said and Charlie nodded.

“I do.”

Rey stopped walking then and turned to face the taller man.

“Then why is Dawn Marie flashing the engagement ring I helped you pick out for Jackie.”

Abandoned

**

Charlie’s fists hammered on the door to the divas locker room. He’d already tried the door knob and though it turned easily enough in his hand it still didn’t open.

“Fuck!”

He heard a scuffle behind him and turned to see a crew member walking towards him, the other man’s attention focused on the clip board in his hands. But all that changed as Charlie latched out and grabbed the man by the scruff of his shirt collar, the clip board clattering loudly as it hit the concrete floor.

“Open that door.” Charlie hissed through clenched teeth.

The man’s eyes were the size of golf balls and his mouth opened and closed in rapid succession as he fought to push the words up through his wind pipe.

“Charlie!”

He ignored the new voice his total focus trained on his hands that were wrapped around the other man’s neck and then he was on the ground, his face pushed into the floor and one of his arms pulled up behind him. He struggled but that only resulted in his face being pushed more into the concrete.

“Cut it out!” The voice said again, but be this time his mind was gone and all sense abandoned as the events of the past twenty-four hours came full quarter. And with a strangled cry he flipped whoever had been holding him down right over the top of him not even bothering to see who it was that had come to the crew man’s aid he got up and started down the hall. It was obvious he wasn’t going to get what he wanted here so fuck all of them. Fuck Theodore Long. Fuck his match. And Fuck Dawn Marie. He just didn’t care anymore.

Confront

**

He squatted in the shadows and waited.

How could his life have become so fucked up? Only the other day he was thinking of Jackie and shopping for an engagement ring and now he had neither. He wanted answers and no one seemed to want to give him any, at least not the ones he wanted to hear anyway. No one but Rey that is, but even his good friend couldn’t stop the disappointment from seeping into his gaze.

To know anything about his ‘Supposed’ night with Dawn Marie he knew he would have to go to the source itself, which is why he was here now. She could hide from him at the arena all she wanted, but she had to come back sooner or later. And when she did he’d be waiting. So wait he did. Hour after hour until finally the click of heels exiting the elevator had his head shooting up and his eyes peering out from his hiding place to see her coming towards him. And the first thing he noticed was the engagement ring he had brought for Jackie encircling the third finger on her left hand.

It took all his will power not to jump out and confront her right there and then and if the elevator doors hadn’t of opened right then and a couple step out he knew that would have been a battle he’d have lost. But he waited, he had no choice and besides he had waited this long he could wait a few minutes more. But those few minutes were long enough for Dawn Marie to swipe her card and enter her room, so once the couple had moved off and turned at the end of the hallway he stepped out of his hiding place and came to a stop outside her room door.

And then he lifted his hand and knocked.

Nothing

**

He buried his head in his hands again as his memory slowly started to return. Hands that were covered in dry blood that cracked and powdered with his movements as he spread his fingers to peer back at the bed.

He had done that. He had come here for answers and when she still refused to give him any ‘He’ had done that! He hadn’t cared to hear her plea’s, paid no mind to her tears and felt none of the pain her nails and teeth had inflicted on him in her need to defend herself.

He had felt nothing because he had nothing.

When her struggles ceased he had no idea, only knew that his anger, hate and despair still poured from his fists long after she had. She was a mess - A bloody, bruised and still mess.

And he now remembered everything.

**

“Charlie! Charlie!”

He raised his eyes his heart skipping a beat at the sound of her voice, but at the same time disgusted at himself for her having to witness this - For any of them to have to witness this, but her especially.

“Charlie!” She called again trying to push through the wall of security that had surrounded him as he was led through the hotel lobby. “Charlie!”

But he didn’t respond.
